Hezbollah Claims Multiple Strikes as Israeli Air Raids Pound Southern Lebanon

On a day marked by escalating violence along the Lebanon-Israel border, missile strikes and heavy artillery fire have been exchanged between Hezbollah and the Israeli military.

Al Arabiya news channel reported that a missile strike targeted Israel’s Meron Airbase and the Samaqa site in the Kfar Shuba hills after rockets had been launched from Lebanon toward northern Israel, including Safed, the Upper Galilee, and the Golan Heights.

Israel’s Channel 12 revealed that parts of Safed experienced power outages following the rocket attacks, while multiple fires were ignited due to the bombardment. Explosions were also reported over border towns between Lebanon and Israel, attributed to Israel’s interception of incoming rockets.

Meanwhile, the Israeli police confirmed that one citizen sustained minor injuries after their vehicle was damaged during the rocket interception in the Golan Heights.

In retaliation, the outskirts of several southern Lebanese towns, including Yaroun, Beit Leif, Haneen, and the areas surrounding Kfarshuba and Khyam, came under intense Israeli artillery fire. Israeli warplanes also conducted airstrikes targeting key areas in southern Lebanon, including the northern plain of Mays al-Jabal, the outskirts of Odaysseh-Kfarkila, and the town of Taybeh.

Later, Hezbollah issued a statement claiming responsibility for targeting several Israeli military sites, announcing it had struck Israel’s main air defense base for the Northern Command, located at the Birya barracks, with a barrage of Katyusha rockets. The group also targeted the rocket and artillery battalion in the Yoav barracks, as well as the Golan Brigade’s war collection headquarters in the Yarden barracks.

The situation along the southern border has been particularly volatile since early morning, with the town of Ayta al-Shaab facing heavy Israeli artillery bombardment. In response, the Israeli army launched a sweeping operation from its positions in the western Galilee, firing heavy machine guns on the outskirts of Alma al-Shaab. At the same time, Israeli drones and reconnaissance aircraft flew intensively over southern Lebanon, focusing on the coastal areas from Mansouri to Tyre.

Israeli media reported that at least two rockets landed in the border town of Metula, triggering sirens to warn of further rocket attacks. In a statement, the Israeli army confirmed that it had carried out air raids targeting around 100 Hezbollah military platforms and infrastructure in southern Lebanon.

"We will continue dismantling Hezbollah's infrastructure and capabilities," the army stated.

As tensions continue to rise, the Israeli army has imposed restrictions on civilian movement in northern settlements and the Golan Heights. Emergency measures implemented in the Upper Galilee and the Hula Valley were lifted later in the day, although the threat of further Hezbollah attacks remains high.

Hezbollah also released another statement confirming its forces had targeted an Israeli military position in Metula with a guided missile, achieving a direct hit.

The group announced the death of two of its members during the day’s clashes.
