The Central Inspection stated in its annual report on the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Lebanon, which was published Thursday, that the total number of people registered to receive a COVID-19 vaccine reached 3,712,536 in the middle of February 2022, of whom 2,485,380, or 67 percent, have so far received at least a single vaccine dose. The report concludes that “this indicates that the vaccination campaign was effective in encouraging individuals to take the vaccine.”
Here’s what we know:
• The report, however, does not specify what percentage of Lebanon’s population has been vaccinated. According to the UN’s refugee agency (UNHCR) the total number of people residing in Lebanon is 6.7 million.
• More than 70 percent of those registered on the COVID-19 vaccination platform in Lebanon who are 50 year old and above were vaccinated, while 2,500 children aged 12 years and below received a COVID-19 vaccine, the Central Inspection’s report states.
• According to the report, the death rate due to COVID-19 fell to its lowest level between January and February 2022, with a rate of 0.25 percent recorded among the infected population. The rate reached a record high of 3.27 percent between April and June 2021.
