Like thousands here in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, I was jolted awake just before 3 a.m. Monday morning by the unmistakable sounds of explosions resulting from Israeli air strikes. MP Elias Hankach on Tueday dismissed remarks by Hezbollah’s secretary-general Naim Qassem about what he termed a potential “support war 2,” describing them as hollow rhetoric aimed at shoring up a base that has already paid a heavy price in past confrontations.
In a post on X, Hankach said Qassem’s words amounted to “an illusion, empty bravado and an attempt to rally his base,” arguing that much of Hezbollah’s support base has grown acutely aware of the cost it bore during what he referred to as “support war 1.”
“That’s why responding to him isn’t worth it," Hankach wrote.
