Caretaker Minister of Public Works Ali Hamieh said that the breach caused damage, and among the measures to take is for the security agencies to complete their work in order to identify the type and source of the breach and respond within days, as the matter is complex.
"No flight has been delayed between yesterday and today, the issue of cybersecurity is now a reality in every country worldwide, and this has nothing to do with administrative negligence; it is a well-known breach affecting all countries and their institutions, and we must activate a cybersecurity strategy in Lebanon," Hamieh said from Beirut airport.
"Yesterday, we disconnected the internet from the airport as a precautionary measure to contain the damage, but there remains a minor issue related to specific equipment that will be completed by the company responsible for maintenance," he added.
He stressed that "work is underway to address the damage caused by the breach, and things are back to normal at the airport. Cybersecurity is a topic related to the Lebanese state, and the results of the investigation will be released in a few days".
Hamieh pointed out that "we cannot determine whether the breach is internal or external, and the entire matter is under the jurisdiction of the security agencies; we will inform the government of the results based on their findings, and what happened does not affect air navigation".
"About 70 percent of the airport screens are now normally functioning, and work is underway on the others in a sequential manner", he added.
"The challenge today is to take radical measures and secure the funding for them to prevent a recurrence of what happened, aiming to be 99 percent secure", he concluded.
