Hakim Warns Backtracking on Commitments Will Put Lebanon in Precarious Position

Kataeb Political Bureau member Alain Hakim emphasized that Lebanon has moved beyond the old political phase, with the country’s current direction firmly defined by the president's inaugural speech, the ministerial statement, the Constitution, and the Taif Agreement.

In an interview on Spot Shot platform, Hakim responded to recent remarks made by Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Metri, asserting that every statement from the government holds significant weight on the international and regional stages. Hakim warned that any backtracking on promises would place Lebanon in a precarious situation, urging all parties to assume responsibility.

"Metri’s words are merely a fig leaf in the face of the reality we are confronting today: the current government, its new vision, the path to state-building, and the focus on sovereignty, with weapons being strictly in the hands of Lebanese security forces," Hakim said.

He further underscored that under the leadership of the President and the government, solutions are possible, particularly in terms of reclaiming Lebanese land.

"The usefulness of arms is no longer valid," he stated. "The only valid solution today is the existence of a strong state."

In response to ongoing discussions about rejecting reforms and building the State in exchange for disarming Hezbollah, Hakim dismissed such rhetoric as "meaningless." He asserted that the responsibility lies with those who continue to support Hezbollah and its direct and indirect allies.

"The current defense strategy is under the leadership of the Lebanese Army," Hakim said. "The train is on the right track, and no one or any statement can stop it."
