Hakim: Quintet's Main Focus Shifts Towards Achieving Consensus Solution

Kataeb Political Bureau Member Alain Hakim indicated that the Quintet committee's main focus shifts towards achieving consensus solution.

"After the diligent efforts exerted by the Quintet committee and the obstacles it faced, it has decided to once again move forward to find common ground among all stakeholders, supported by House Speaker Nabih Berri, to reaffirm Lebanon's interest," Hakim said in an interview with "Al-Anbaa" online.

He said, "this time, the Quintet's action is stronger and firmer than previous times in order to reach practical solutions and establish a roadmap with several points ensuring everyone's acceptance of electing a President within specific criteria set by French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian."

"Regardless of the outcome, this figure must be acceptable through dialogue or discussion, and it is crucial to have guarantees for this mechanism to achieve the final result, which is electing a consensual President. There must be speed in performance because we are awaiting future support, investment, and Lebanon's involvement in the upcoming talks. We must elect a president as soon as possible," Hakim noted.

Hakim emphasized the importance of focusing on the outcome rather than the process, citing strong pressure from the participating countries in the Quintet committee.

He noted a clear firmness from the ambassadors of the United States, Qatar, and Egypt to reach a final solution.

"The Kataeb Party's stance is clear. We have no intentions of obstruction; on the contrary, the opposition is ready to support any initiative that leads us to the election of a president and the application of the points advocated by the Quintet. In return, it is up to the Quintet to clarify matters and propose new names. The opposition has already waived the nomination of Deputy Michel Mouawad and is prepared to waive the second name. Conversely, the other party must accept and withdraw the nomination of Sleiman Frangieh," Hakim pointed out.
