Hakim: If We Want Change, We Must Choose the Right Man For the Right Place

Former Economy Minister Dr. Alain Hakim voiced his pessimism over Lebanon’s political situation, saying that the country is experiencing a lack of balance on all levels.

“Where is the plan that cost the treasury one million and 250 thousand dollars? Where is the comprehensive solution to the crisis? What are the reasons that led to taking individual decisions despite their proven futility and failure?” Hakim said in an interview with Al Anbaa online newspaper.

He wondered about the reluctance to take the decision regarding the customs dollar and the artificial hype around it.

"The increase in problems in various sectors, starting from the fuel crisis to diesel and energy, food storage, wheat and flour crisis , all of which are prior to the presidential elections," he added.

“What is the benefit of electing a president to manage the crisis while the people are starving?” he asked.

Hakim called for the election of a neutral president who is able to save Lebanon from its unending crises.

“If we want change, we must know how to choose the right man for the right place. The most important thing is for the Lebanese people to agree on him and for him to be accepted regionally and internationally,” he noted.

“It is no longer permissible to elect a president who acts unilaterally and increases Lebanon's isolation,” he emphasized.

“No glimmer of hope indicates a breakthrough in the Lebanese crisis except by the establishment of a Lebanese bloc that has not any foreign affiliation and represents the country's will," he added.
