Hakim: Election of President Will Resolve Lebanon's Multiple Crises

Kataeb Political Bureau Member Alain Hakim noted that the axis was waiting for the right time to reveal the name of its presidential candidate which is Former minister Sleiman Frangieh as it did in the past years, saying that everyone is waiting for 2016 scene to be repeated after accepting the presidential candidate of Hezbollah.

“The solidarity of the opposition can pave the way for a practical solution and a unified vision. The opposition’s aim is to prevent securing the quorum in the presidential elections sessions as by doing so it would be a tantamount to voting for the candidate of the other team,” Hakim said in an interview with Tele Liban.

“Kataeb’s presidential candidate is still MP Michel Mouawad until further notice,” he affirmed.

Responding to Free Patriotic Movement Leader Gebran Bassil’s speech and its attack on martyr President Bachir Gemayel, Hakim noted: “MP Nadim Gemayel had an adequate response. No one can ever attack Bachir Gemayel nor compare himself to him whether at the national or sovereign level.”

On the decline of the Christians population in Lebanon and Maronite Patriarchate stances, he stated: “The stances of the Maronite Patriarchate were always sovereign and national whether at the level of its stance on the quorum of the presidential elections or on Patriarch’s last sermon. Concerning the decline of the Christians population, all the Lebanese from all sects are experiencing the same challenging situation.”

Hakim affirmed that Lebanon was not a priority for the foreign countries as the Lebanese officials are the main responsibles for their country’s problems.

“The opposition is acting responsibly and is trying to leave a positive message for foreign countries. It is also trying to create a working group in a bid to reach practical soltuions,” he emphasized.

“Electing a president, opening discussions with creditors on Eurobonds, demonstrating Lebanon’s commitment to adopt reforms, and ending Capital Control file are keys to end Lebanon’s multiple crises,” Hakim explained.

“Discussions with creditors means the restoration of confidence which is the pillar of the economy. Respecting the constitutional deadlines is necessary at all levels,” he concluded.
