Gunmen Attack Lebanese Army Post as Military Launches Extensive Raids in Baalbek

The Lebanese Army announced on Friday that a series of security operations in Dar al-Wasiaa, Baalbek, targeting dangerous wanted individuals led to the death of a prominent suspect, saying that operations are ongoing to apprehend others.

The Army Command said units, supported by the Military Intelligence Directorate, conducted raids aimed at arresting several wanted individuals, including H.J., wanted for multiple serious crimes including firing on army posts and patrols, killing soldiers, forming gangs for arms and drug trafficking, kidnapping for ransom, and armed robbery.

During the raids, the suspect and several accomplices opened fire on soldiers, injuring a number of personnel. The soldiers returned fire, killing the main suspect. Investigations are ongoing under judicial supervision, and the army is continuing its efforts to apprehend the remaining wanted individuals.

Separately, gunmen reportedly attacked an army post in Iyat and the Tal al-Abyad area of Dar al-Wasiaa. In response, the Lebanese Army, backed by Military Intelligence, launched further raids across the region, searching for wanted individuals and seizing illegal weapons and contraband.

Preliminary reports indicate that three wanted members of the Al-Jaafar family were killed during the operation.

The army has reinforced its presence across the area, with troops moving toward the Sharawinah neighborhood in Baalbek and military barracks on high alert.
