The Lebanese government voted on Thursday to send an urgent draft law to Parliament that would temporarily suspend Article 112 of the electoral law for one time only. The measure would allow Lebanese expatriates to vote for all 128 members of Parliament in the 2026 elections, rather than being limited to six designated seats.
The decision passed with 17 votes in favor and was opposed only by the four Shiite ministers and Fadi Makki.
In addition, the Cabinet approved the cancellation of magnetic voter cards and the establishment of large polling centers to make it easier for expatriates to cast their ballots. The online registration deadline for non-residents was also extended to December 31.
