Gemayel: We Will Disrupt the Presidential Elections If the Candidate Supports Hezbollah's Illegal Weapons

Kataeb Leader Samy Gemayel threatned to disrupt the presidential elections if the presidential candidate of the other party plans to protect and cover Hezbollah's illegal weapons.

“Lebanon is not a homeland, but rather a soul. When the Kataeb fought for independence and for this entity, its goal was to create a space in which freedom, development, democracy and prosperity would be recognized,” Gemayel said during Kataeb's 32nd General Congress.

“Those who try to eliminate Lebanon are an armed group that takes its sect hostage and tries to turn the conflict into fanaticism between the sects,” he added.

"The battle today is not against a certain category of Lebanese people, but rather over the country’s Christian and Muslim coexistence,” he affirmed.

Gemayel noted that Lebanon was witnessing a destruction of the judiciary, institutions, freedom of expression and free media, saying that the Kataeb Party wants to preserve the freedom and identity of Lebanon.

“They handed over the country and the Lebanese to Hezbollah claiming that they are protecting the Christians. We have never seen emigration as much as we saw during the strong Christian term,” he stated.

“There are two states on one land, the Lebanese Republic and the Hezbollah Republic. Unfortunately, we are hiding behind some slogans to escape the reality that this Islamic Republic is trying to destroy the spirit of the Lebanese Republic,” he stressed.

The Kataeb Leader pointed out that the Lebanese could no longer deal with this dictatorship in a traditional way.

“We must change our approach, stop bargaining and unite,” he emphasized.

“We will disrupt the presidential elections if the other party plans to name a candidate who will support and cover Hezbollah's illegal weapons for 6 additional years,” he concluded.
