Gemayel Stresses Importance of U.S. Support and International Backing in Meeting with Darrell Issa

Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel held talks with U.S. Congressman Darrell Issa, with talks focusing on recent political developments in Lebanon and the broader region.

Participants stressed the urgent need for Lebanon to reclaim its sovereign decision-making authority, restore its State institutions, and reopen channels of cooperation with the international and Arab communities. These steps were described as vital to supporting the Lebanese economy and accelerating national recovery efforts.

Talks also touched on key issues such as the ceasefire agreement, the Lebanese government’s mandate for the army to develop a plan to place all weapons under legitimate State authority, and the recent approval of the U.S. policy framework put forth by envoy Thomas Barrack.

Gemayel emphasized the crucial role of the United States as a guarantor of any future agreements, underscoring the importance of including measures to halt Israeli violations. He also highlighted Lebanon’s ongoing challenges and called for continued support from the country’s allies to help Lebanon overcome them.

The meeting, held at the Kataeb's headquarter in Saifi, was attended by the party MPs Salim Sayegh and Nadim Gemayel, as well as the party’s head of Foreign Affairs Department, Marwan Abdallah.
