Gemayel Stresses Ceasefire and Humanitarian Support in Talks with UN Special Coordinator

Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel held a meeting with the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Janine Hennis-Plasschaert, to discuss the pressing and critical developments currently affecting Lebanon.

The meeting comes at a time of heightened instability, with urgent concerns over security and the well-being of the Lebanese population.

Central to the talks was the urgent call for an immediate ceasefire to halt the ongoing violence. Both sides stressed the importance of implementing international resolutions, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which aims to prevent further hostilities and protect Lebanese sovereignty. The implementation of these resolutions is seen as essential to safeguarding Lebanon and its territories from continued aggression.

Moreover, the meeting also highlighted the dire situation faced by the people of southern Lebanon as thousands of residents have been displaced, while others have chosen to remain in their villages despite the risks. Gemayel emphasized the need for immediate humanitarian assistance to both groups and called on the United Nations and the international community to take a more active role in providing protection and support to those affected by the ongoing conflict.

The meeting was attended by Political Bureau member Alain Hakim and Dr. Michel Abi Abdallah, the party's Foreign Affairs Advisor.
