Kataeb lawmaker Nadim Gemayel on Thursday met with Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian at Dar al-Fatwa with talks featuring high on the latest developments in Lebanon.

“We congratulated his Emminence on Eid al-Adha, together we tackled Lebanon’s issues namely the issue of Beirut’s municipality. The problems that the country is experiencing are neither sectarian nor minor rather political,” Gemayel said after meeting Derian.

“A group is trying to change Lebanon’s identity, impose a new logic of democracy and coexistence. We are ready to confront it in a bid to ensure a peaceful coexistence,” he added.

Gemayel deemed the constitution, sovereignty, democracy and freedom as top priority, saying that his party will exert its utmost efforts to preserve them.

“The issue of Beirut’s municipality is a very delicate issue and we are aware of his eminence’s stance as we believe in the importance of parity,” he noted.
