Gemayel Receives Bou Saab, Warns Against "Abyss"

Kataeb Leader Samy Gemayel received on Wednesday Deputy Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Elias Bou Saab at the party’s headquarters in Saifi with the presence of Lawmaker Elias Hankach.

“The issue today goes beyond the Presidency of the Republic and is related to our future in this country,” Gemayel said after the meeting.

“We welcome any step that takes us forward. We are open to any solution but but at the same time this solution must be at the level of the ambition of Lebanon’s youth to live in a free, sovereign, independent and civilized country, with a strong economy, in which everyone is equal in rights and duties, and we will not accept less,” he stressed.

“We will not head into the abyss of six more years of humiliation by electing a president who will not make a change,” he pointed out.

“We are not the problem, the problem is the side imposing its decisions on the Lebanese and obstructing any chance of growth,” he affirmed.

Gemayel said that the choice to elect Sleiman Frangieh is an extension of the past 6 years due to his political position, deeming it a choice of death for Lebanon and a project to displace its youth.

For his part, Deputy Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament said that his initiative aims at building bridges between parties and not at electing a specific president.

Bou Saab indicated that some are betting on the failure of his initiative, but according to him, the problem lies in maintaining the status quo.

“We must not rely on the outside, but rather on ourselves, time is very important. We have to start from the basics, i.e. the role of the President of the Republic before discussing names,” he said.

Bou Saab noted that Lebanon was absent from the international community, just as it was absent from the meeting in Amman that discussed the file of the Syrian refugees.
