A Future Without Hezbollah
At the end of September, when Israel’s campaign to destroy Hezbollah was reaching its height, I met one of the group’s supporters in a seaside café in western Beirut. He was a middle-aged man with a thin white beard and the spent look of someone who had not slept for days. He was an academic of sorts, not a fighter, but his ties to Hezbollah were deep and long-standing.

Gemayel Met with Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees in Lebanon
Kataeb Leader MP Samy Gemayel met with the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees in Lebanon, Ivo Freijsen, with talks featuring high on Syrian presence in Lebanon and the role of the UNHCR in this regard.
Gemayel presented the view of the Kataeb Party on the general situation, indicating that Lebanon is in a state of collapse which does not allow it to bear the burden of this number of refugees on its ground for a period superior to 12 years, especially with the change of circumstances in Syria and the end of military actions, which necessitates the transition to a new phase in which procedures are taken for the return of refugees to their country.
The Kataeb Leader also addressed a number of practical steps that must be followed to deal with the Syrian presence in Lebanon.
The meeting was attended by member of the Kataeb Political Bureau, Ghassan Abou Jaoudeh, party’s Foreign Affairs Coordinator Dr.Michel Abou Abdallah, as well as Kataeb's Head of Public Policy and Legislation Lawyer Lara Saade.
