Kataeb Leader Samy Gemayel met on Thursday with French Ambassador to Lebanon Anne Grillo at the party’s headquarters in Saifi with talks featuring high on the latest developments in the country, namely the presidential elections file.
Gemayel praised the role of France in helping Lebanon, saying that the French intentions are the interest of the Lebanese people.
“The Kataeb Party and the opposition reject Hezbollah’s continuous tutelage over Lebanon as was the case in the past,” he noted.
“The election of any president who has taken a side in the ideological political conflict will lead to the country's division. The unification of Lebanon requires a president who is acceptable to all and capable of carrying out all the reforms required to save Lebanon from the economic reality. The upcoming president should have the will and the ability to negotiate directly with Hezbollah in a bid to restore the State’s sovereignty and free decision,” he noted.
“Despite the circulating rumors, I am reassured that the international trend is aware of all the dangers and is aware that a large part of the Lebanese society refuses submission,” he said, pointing to the need to elect a president who has the required specifications, ability and conviction to find solutions that preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence and openness to the world.
