Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel on Thursday urged the Lebanese government to swiftly follow up on President Joseph Aoun’s recent call to confine all weapons to the state, describing the President’s position as “clear and unequivocal.”
In a post on social media platform X, Gemayel welcomed the remarks made by Aoun during a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the Lebanese Army, in which the president stressed the need to place all weapons under the control of the state “today before tomorrow.”
“On the Army’s 80th anniversary, we heard a clear and unequivocal position from the President of the Republic on the urgent need to confine all arms to the state, today, not tomorrow,” Gemayel wrote.
The Kataeb chief called on the cabinet to take immediate steps to enforce the President’s message.
“We hope the government will translate this into concrete steps on Tuesday to enforce the law on everyone equally and restore the state's sovereignty and authority,” he added.
