From Drone Containment to Occupying Nabatieh.. Israel Prepares for an Open War in Southern Lebanon

Israel is preparing for the possibility of resuming war on the Lebanese front, coinciding with its potential outbreak between Washington and Tehran, by enhancing its military presence and deploying air defense and interception platforms within the occupied Lebanese territories, in addition to expanding its ground operations towards the Tuffah region, the course of the Zahrani River, and areas in the Bekaa, reaching the occupation of the Nabatieh region.

Military experts believe that the deployment of interception and air defense platforms within Lebanese territories aims to counter Hezbollah's drones, which it no longer possesses much of, and to protect northern Israel, confirming that the party has lost most of its missile capabilities, and what remains does not pose a threat to Israel as much as it threatens the Lebanese interior, given its inability to compensate for its losses.

These preparations reflect, according to estimates, that Israel is gearing up for a new confrontation that is not limited to containing the party's attacks but extends to a wider incursion and imposing a new military reality within Lebanon.

A Final Attempt
Military and strategic expert, Said Al-Qazah, stated that Israel has been preparing since the ceasefire in April 2026 on the Lebanese front, following the framework agreement, for the possibility of Hezbollah resuming missile and drone launches towards the Israeli forces present on Lebanese territory or towards the northern settlements.

He added to "Erm News" that Israel is waiting for any hostile action from the party to resume targeting the party's infrastructure throughout Lebanon and advancing towards the Tuffah region and the course of the Zahrani River, in addition to occupying the Nabatieh region, continuing what it has started.

The military expert Al-Qazah explained that Iran may begin launching missiles towards the region, including Israel, in an attempt to escape forward, considering this a final attempt in light of the economic blockade imposed on it by the United States, which is suffocating it, or that Washington may target Iran after the midterm elections.

He pointed out that as war approaches again, Israel is preparing and gearing up for war on both the Iranian and Lebanese fronts, as it has deployed its air defenses in various locations and fronts from which missiles and drones may be launched towards it.

Al-Qazah confirmed that Israel is waiting for the spark to begin its incursion deep into Lebanese territory, including areas of western Bekaa, the Tuffah region, and the course of the Zahrani River at least, as it will work independently to disarm Hezbollah completely.

Multiple Fronts
For his part, national security and strategic affairs researcher, Brigadier General Ya'rob Sakhr, confirmed that Israel is preparing and ready for all fronts, noting that it fought the three previous wars with Hezbollah before 2025, defeated it, and ended a large part of its capabilities, and removed its threat to some extent, as it did with Iran, then returned to strike both of them together after March 2026, when the party engaged in supporting Tehran.

He added to "Erm News" that Israel has enhanced its military capabilities and arsenal at various levels to face all possibilities, pointing out that what concerns Israel is the presence of Hezbollah in direct contact with it, unlike other fronts, as it is the Iranian arm in Lebanon, with Iran breaking the geographical barrier with it through Hezbollah.

Sakhr noted that Israel's occupation of southern Lebanon and its incursion northward have pushed Hezbollah further north, and it is prepared to push it even further and eliminate what remains of its military capabilities, confirming that if this war breaks out, it will be the last against Iran and the party.

He indicated that the party no longer possesses anything but drones after Israel has almost completely destroyed its missile arsenal, whether short, medium, or long-range, except for some rear pockets that contain some ballistic missiles in the Bekaa region, leaving the issue of drones that the party has the ability to partially manufacture after closing supply and funding routes.

He explained that by occupying southern Lebanon, Israel has pushed the range of drones further away, as it has installed air defense platforms and interception means in Lebanese territories to reduce the risks of drones on northern Israel, making it easier to deal with them in the event of an attack compared to previous wars.

He went on to say that if Hezbollah is able to direct the drones, they will head towards Israeli soldiers inside the blue line, where they will collide with the Israeli interception platforms and air defenses, confirming that what remains of Hezbollah's capabilities poses a threat to the Lebanese interior and not to Israel, noting that if war breaks out, which is expected at any moment, it will be on multiple fronts, including the Lebanese front through Hezbollah.
