On March 2, Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel – though the decision for it to do so was almost certainly made by Iran – carrying Lebanon into a new war with Israeli forces. French presidential envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian has reached the Grand Serail for a meeting with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, in the presence of French Ambassador to Lebanon Hervé Magro.
Mikati stressed to his guest that "the beginning of the solution to the current crisis in Lebanon necessitates the election of a new president and the completion of the economic reforms."
For his part, Le Drian said he is visiting Lebanon to "complete" his mission, adding that he will not be providing any opinion before he resumes his meetings and contacts.
He also hoped that Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri's initiative will pave the way for the sought solutions.
