France Suspends Classes in Hundreds of High Schools Following Student Protests

French Education Minister announced on Sunday that classes will be suspended "completely or partially" on Monday in "400 to 500" high schools "that do not meet safety conditions", and that 24 educational institutions have been "burned or vandalized" amid the student protests that began earlier this week, according to "France Presse".

Edouard Geffray explained via "France 2" and "France Inter" that "between 400 and 500 schools suspended classes" on Friday, and that "the number will likely be similar on Monday, but with a partial and gradual resumption of classes", also expressing regret for the injury of "78 staff members" in the education sector "since the beginning of the events".

The minister explained that the closure of schools is decided when "safety conditions are not met", whether due to issues related to buildings and equipment or because staff members have been "directly targeted".
