Exclusive: Heading to Almost a Complete Blackout of Communications and Internet

“Kataeb.org" website learned on Wednesday that communication and internet services had been disrupted in some regions today and that further regions might be affected over the next days.

Additionally, the Ogero maintenance staff refuses to give in to pressure to call off their strike, which worsens the situation as a result of rising malfunction rates.

The website also discovered that the Central Bank had declined to issue new credit lines for the purchase of diesel oil and that the amount of diesel available in some centers was running low.

These factors indicate that Lebanon is coming to an almost complete interruption of communications and the internet, especially that private internet distribution corporations purchase their packages from Ogero. Therefore, any malfunction that affects the authority's centers will also have an impact on internet services in different regions.

The process of getting employees back to work is still ongoing. The minister of communications has met with a representative delegation from the Ogero Workers' Union to discuss how to get workers back to work as soon as possible before the calamity.

IDM and Cyberia, the two internet providers announced that the outage affected many subscribers in the capital Beirut and other Lebanese regions.

“This interruption is due to sporadic malfunctions in the stations, and it affects all internet service providers in Lebanon," he said.

"We are doing everything we can to get the service back to subscribers as soon as possible, and we have been able to do so for some of them. This is especially important for businesses who rely on the GDS wireless internet service to be able to keep operating,” both companies added in a statement.
