Fuel Prices Rise for the Second Time in a Week

New fuel prices announced by the Energy Ministry on Thursday morning show an increase in the cost of gasoline, diesel and cooking gas for the second time in a week.

Here’s what we know:

    • The prices of 20 liters of 95-octane and 98-octane of gasoline rose by LL3,000, reaching LL377,800 and LL390,600 respectively.

    • The price of diesel fuel rose by LL16,600 reaching LL410,000. The price of a tank of household cooking gas rose by LL14,000 and now costs LL 359,500.

    • George Brax, a spokesperson for gas station owners, attributed the price increase to the devaluation of the lira against the US dollar this week. He claimed importers are paying LL32,187 for each US dollar, in comparison to the LL30,837 they paid on Monday.
