Qatar launched rare military strikes inside Iranian territory over the past 24 hours in response to a wave of Iranian attacks across the Persian Gulf, according to reports from Israeli media citing diplomatic sources.
Reports first surfaced on Israel’s Channel 12 and were later corroborated by senior Western diplomatic sources speaking to The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday. According to these sources, the Qatari strikes were a direct response to Iranian operations that targeted civilian infrastructure within the Gulf state.
Unnamed Western officials familiar with the situation told Israel's Channel 12 that Qatar had struck targets inside Iran in response to Tehran’s region‑wide strike campaign — part of an unprecedented escalation after Israel and the U.S. launched air strikes against Iran earlier this week.
However, Majed Al Ansari, spokesman for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, posted on X that the Gulf state “has not been part of the campaign targeting Iran,” calling the report inaccurate. He said Doha is “exercising our right in self‑defense and deterring Iranian attacks against our country,” but did not elaborate on any operations beyond defensive measures.
Meanwhile, a senior Israeli official told Israel’s public broadcaster Kan that Riyadh is expected to strike Iran “soon,” after Saudi Arabia itself was targeted by Iranian attacks.
