Diab Calls for Unification Between Opposition, Says Lebanon Does Not Have Luxury of Time

Head of Lebanese University Department at the Kataeb party Charbel Diab stressed that what Lebanon was witnessing for the first time since the Taif Agreement was a real opportunity to elect a “Lebanese” president, saying that all parties agree on that especially after May parliamentary elections.

“Today, the Kataeb party and the opposition have sovereign specifications to elect a new head of State. All these specifications were agreed upon by two-thirds of the opposition,” Diab said in an interview with MTV.

Diab asserted that Lebanon did not have the luxury of time to maneuver, nor to have labels from outside the politics, because in the world's finest democracies there are people "for" or "against".

“The upcoming president shall be courageous in a bid to address all country’s issues, the first of which is Hezbollah’s illegal weapons that brought Lebanon to the brink of collapse. This armed militia held sway over our country and proof is that today Lebanon does not have institutions rather alternative ones,” he affirmed.

Diab called for unification between the opposition as Lebanon cannot withstand this situation anymore.
