Defense Ministry Warns Against Use of Israeli App Over Security Concerns

Lebanon's Defense Ministry has issued a warning regarding the use of a mobile application employed by Israel, highlighting its potential security risks. In a letter circulated to the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and other relevant state institutions, the ministry outlined the dangers posed by the Tzofar (Red Alert) app, which is widely used in Israel as an alert system.

In the letter, Defense Minister Michel Menassa urged authorities to refrain from using the app, which provides real-time notifications about missile threats, attacks, and emergency situations. Tzofar operates on both mobile devices and the internet, delivering rapid alerts to users about imminent dangers.

However, the Lebanese government cautioned that the app goes beyond its intended function, posing a serious security threat. The Tzofar app has the potential to track individuals, map infrastructure, identify critical sites, and even breach devices for surveillance, putting users' personal and geographical data at direct risk.

The Lebanese authorities stressed that the app's capabilities could enable spying, eavesdropping, and the collection of sensitive information.
