Delegation from Dar al-Fatwa Meets President Aoun: Unity and Reform Take Center Stage

President Joseph Aoun met with Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdel Latif Derian accompanied by a delegation of regional muftis and officials from Dar al-Fatwa, at the Baabda Presidential Palace.

Following the meeting, Mufti Derian stated: "We emphasized the necessity of implementing the principles outlined in the inaugural address and sensed a strong will and determination from His Excellency to move forward with implementation."

"We assured him that, as an essential Lebanese community, we will remain under the umbrella of a strong, just Lebanese state—a state of balance and consensus. I wish the President every success and hope his term will be a prosperous one, turning the page on the suffering endured by the Lebanese people," he added.

"We must all begin thinking with a state-centric mindset that embraces everyone—a state of citizenship, justice, and law. This is the foundation upon which political life in Lebanon can thrive. Additionally, we reiterated—and found alignment with the President—the importance of adhering to the Constitution and the Taif Agreement, which safeguard public institutions. We extend our deepest gratitude to all those who contributed to the successful completion of the presidential election," he noted.

In response to a question about the binding parliamentary consultations, Mufti Derian said:
"Parliamentarians must fulfill their constitutional duty by naming the most suitable candidate to undertake the formation of the new government. The proposed names are promising, and the choice between them rests with the MPs. I expect them all to select a leader capable of steering the country through this new phase."
