Dagher: Hezbollah Must Surrender Its Weapons to Spare the Country More Destruction

Commenting on the negotiation process, the Assistant to the President of the Kataeb Party for Political and Electoral Affairs, Serge Dagher, said in an interview on the "W Halq Sho" program on "Al-Jadeed" channel: "The process began from the oath of office and the ministerial statement up to where we are today, as the Lebanese state is the one that monopolizes weapons, and it is the one that spreads across all Lebanese territories, and the process is still in its early stages as we are negotiating with an enemy state."

He added that the state does not hold all decision-making cards, and this period is considered the most stagnant due to the lack of commitments from any party in light of the elections in Israel and America, so the state is trying to reduce Israeli violence in the south and find an alternative to UNIFIL forces.

He confirmed that "neither the state nor even Hezbollah's opponents were thinking of entering into negotiations, and what got us into this is the party's entanglement of Lebanon in war, and the state today is trying to salvage what can be salvaged."
In response to a question, Dagher clarified that the realities in Lebanon are unfortunately a matter of perspective, and we must agree that there are three support wars that the party has fought: the first for Bashar al-Assad, the second for al-Sinwar, and the third for Iran.

He pointed out that the term "support" was coined by Hezbollah itself, not its opponents, based on its official statements.

In a related context, he added: "Regarding the killing of Khamenei, we heard Wafiq Safa say that it is natural for us to respond because our leader was killed. The party had given guarantees to the state that it would not enter into war, and if they slept and woke up, they would find missiles launched towards Israel, and the decision is not with the party but with Iran."
He continued, confirming that the threefold support has ruined Lebanon and resulted in the assassination of first, second, and third-tier leaders in the party, and Lebanon is now waiting for America to restrain Israel.
Dagher noted that there is misinformation among the Lebanese regarding the ceasefire agreement on November 27, 2024, as Israel did not stop firing for 15 months, and Berri said: "Let Israel stop the bombing and take from me to stop Hezbollah," while Israel claims it is at war and will not stop unless the party surrenders its weapons, without committing to what was before or after the Litani River.
He confirmed that the government announced that Hezbollah is outside the legitimacy, and we support it in implementing its decisions, emphasizing the desire not to clash with the party, but rather to demand it to surrender its weapons to the state to spare the country more destruction.
Regarding what is expected from the round of negotiations in Tampa, he said: "We all agree that we will not achieve results, but if the American feels that the state will not do anything or is not proactive, it may decide to negotiate with the party, so the state must act as a state with the party, and no one is inclined to clash with it."
He pointed out that what Lebanon agreed to in the framework agreement is to end the state of hostility and the withdrawal of the Israeli army following the disarmament of militias, stressing that the state is trying through negotiations to alleviate pressure on Lebanon.

In the reconstruction file, he questioned the usefulness of discussing it amidst the war, confirming that actual reconstruction can only occur after the war is completely stopped.
He also questioned whether Hezbollah is capable of bringing sustainable stability, explaining that "the state negotiates without a card of power as the party claims, and if the actual card of power is the weapon, if the 'resistance' does not give it to the state, how will it have power?"
He concluded his remarks by emphasizing that Lebanon did not have an Israeli soldier before the war except in the Shebaa Farms, which the United Nations considers Syrian territory, and to prove that it is Lebanese, we need a recognition paper from Syria.
