Cabinet to Assert State’s Exclusive Right to Liberation in Policy Statement

Lebanon’s newly formed government is set to convene on Monday for a crucial session to discuss its ministerial statement, after finalizing the document’s details. The statement is expected to focus on reinforcing the role of the state, aligning with President Joseph Aoun’s inaugural speech, which emphasized the urgent need for reforms and national recovery.

According to sources cited by Al-Anbaa Online, one of the key changes in the ministerial statement will be the modification of the phrase "the right of the Lebanese to liberate their land" to "the right of the state to liberate its land." This adjustment underscores a shift toward consolidating state authority and sovereignty over national security matters.

The statement is also expected to reaffirm Lebanon’s commitment to extending state sovereignty over its entire territory, in accordance with the Taif Agreement, the Constitution, and international resolutions—particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. Additionally, it will emphasize the need to strengthen security along the Lebanese-Syrian border, a longstanding point of concern in the country’s security landscape.

Economic and financial reforms will also take center stage in the ministerial statement, reflecting growing pressures to address Lebanon’s deepening economic crisis. Sources indicate that the document will be crafted with clear and precise standards, avoiding ambiguities that could lead to political disputes. The government is expected to approve the statement based on a consensus that all parties were represented in the drafting process.

The approval of the ministerial statement will pave the way for a vote of confidence in parliament, a crucial step in determining the government’s ability to move forward with its policy agenda.
