Berri Says Hezbollah Open to Truce with Israel Regardless of Iran Deal

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said Monday that Hezbollah is prepared to commit to a new ceasefire with Israel, urging U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene and secure a lasting truce after Israel threatened fresh strikes on the outskirts of Beirut.

In an interview with The New York Times, Berri said only Washington has the leverage necessary to bring about a genuine halt to the fighting.

“No one can make a real ceasefire except for Trump,” Berri said. “This is the only way.”

His remarks came amid renewed tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, as concerns mounted over the possibility of further Israeli military action in and around the Lebanese capital.

“If there is a serious ceasefire, I guarantee Hezbollah will be committed to it,” he said, adding that the position reflected a direct message from Hezbollah itself.

Berri also indicated that Hezbollah could be willing to separate a ceasefire arrangement in Lebanon from broader negotiations between the United States and Iran.

“A deal that is separate from Iran, or with Iran, does not matter,” Berri said. “We need a ceasefire.”

He criticized Israel's approach to ongoing negotiations, arguing that diplomatic efforts cannot succeed while military operations continue.

“Israel wants to negotiate while it’s bombing, and this is very costly for us,” he said.
