A planned visit by Lebanon’s top public procurement official to the Port of Beirut is expected to signal a return to formal legal oversight at the facility.
According to Nidaa Al-Watan, Jean Alliyeh, head of the Public Procurement Authority and Director General of the Tender Board at the Central Inspection Board, is set to visit the port in a move described as a qualitative shift in its management. During the visit, the port’s director general is expected to announce a return to the public procurement mechanism for tenders, reinstating procedures mandated by law.
The step follows prolonged disputes between the Public Procurement Authority and the port’s former administration, which had refused to subject tenders and procurement processes to oversight by the authority.
