Beirut Port Networks Exposed for Embezzlement, Electricity Theft

Despite the crime against humanity inflicted upon Lebanon through the devastating explosion at the Beirut Port on August 4, 2020, which resulted in hundreds of casualties, thousands of injuries, and immense material losses, individuals with nefarious intentions and involvement in corrupt practices have exhibited an alarming lack of remorse.

According to the Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Anbaa", two gangs operating in Beirut Port were arrested.

The first gang specialized in stealing funds from the port's revenue box, while the second specialized in electricity theft.

The newspaper reported that two individuals were caught red-handed opening the port's revenue box and stealing significant amounts of money, mostly in US dollars.

Furthermore, after a thorough investigation, State Security discovered that another gang operating in Beirut Port had connected an electrical cable from the port to its private distribution network in the surrounding area and was selling electricity to to residential apartments, commercial shops, and offices.

The arrested individuals confessed to their crimes during the investigation, which corroborated the evidence against them.

Both cases were referred to the relevant judiciary along with the detainees for further legal action.
