Beirut Archbishop: Parliament Must Guard Against Heresies and Uphold the Constitution

Beirut Greek Orthodox Archbishop Elias Audi deemed the Constitution as the supreme law that should regulate the work of State institutions, stressing that every official must abide by it.

"In the Church, there are constants from which every believer departs just as nations have Constitutions which are the foundations upon which they are built. A nation's Constitution is the supreme law that regulates the work of the authorities within the state, serving as a guide for every official, governor, parliamentarian, and public officer. Respecting it is mandatory and applying it is obligatory,” Audi said in his Sunday sermon.

“The Parliament must be a bulwark against any heresy that some may attempt to establish or spread,” he affirmed.

"We hope that everyone, especially the members of parliament, respects the Lebanese Constitution and that they implement its provisions so that the people can find relief from the pressure they are living under and enjoy a bit of stability,” he concluded.
