Beirut Airport Safe Despite Conflict, MEA Executive Confirms

Middle East Airlines (MEA) has assured the public that Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport remains fully operational and safe despite escalating tensions in the region.

Mohammad Aziz, advisor to the Chairman of MEA, told Al-Jadeed that they have received assurances that the airport will not be targeted in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

“We have assurances that Beirut Airport is being kept out of the conflict, and we are operating on this basis,” Aziz said, noting that the airline has maintained stable ticket prices amid the unrest.

On Monday, the United States issued a warning to Israel on Monday, urging the Israeli military to refrain from targeting Beirut’s airport or its access routes. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller reiterated the importance of keeping the airport and its roads accessible for citizens seeking to evacuate.

“We think it's very important that not only the airport be open, but that the roads to the airport be open, so that American citizens who want to leave can get out, but also citizens of other countries,” Miller told reporters.a
