Assad Family Members Detained at Beirut Airport over Forged Passports

Lebanese judicial authorities have ordered the arrest of the wife and daughter of Douraid Refaat al-Assad after they were found traveling with forged passports, according to local reports.

The two women are currently detained by Lebanon's General Security following their arrest at Beirut's airport. They were attempting to board a flight to Cairo and were accompanied by Refaat al-Assad's son, who was traveling with a legitimate, authentic Syrian passport.

The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution, which issued the formal arrest orders. The judiciary has not disclosed further details about the forged documents or their origin.

Douraid al-Assad, known for his staunch support of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, has played a significant role in backing the government’s efforts against opposition forces. His support has often involved the use of sectarian rhetoric to consolidate Alawite community support for the regime.
