Arsenal’s Premier League game against Chelsea has been given a new date due to policing concerns.
The league leaders, who are six points clear of Manchester City, were set to take on their London rivals at the Emirates on April 29 three days after facing City at the Etihad on April 26.
The club’s women’s team and youth team both have important fixtures at the Emirates in a matter of days so the game has subsequently been moved to May 2.
Arsenal’s under-18 side will face West Ham United in the Youth Cup final on April 29 while Arsenal Women face Wolfsburg in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final on May 1.
A statement from the Premier League read: “The Premier League fixture between Arsenal FC and Chelsea FC at the Emirates Stadium, scheduled to take place on Saturday 29 April at 5.30pm, will now take place on Tuesday 2 May at 8.00 pm.
“The initial scheduling of this match was approved at a Safety Advisory Group (SAG) meeting in February. However, the Metropolitan Police has now revised its position regarding the kick-off time and requested a further SAG meeting which determined the match had to be rescheduled.
“We regret the need to move this fixture at late notice and the impact this will have on supporters. The game will remain live on Sky Sports.”
The Football Supporters Association (FSA) criticised the decision as did the Arsenal Supporters Trust and the Chelsea Supporters Trust.
The FSA said: “Arsenal vs Chelsea is moved again (after initially being selected for a Saturday evening kick-off) to a Tuesday evening with just over two weeks notice.
“More disruption for fans and not the first time this season the authorities have shown such little regard for match-going supporters.”
Arsenal are next in action against West Ham on Sunday at the London Stadium, while Chelsea face Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabeu.
