Al-Rahi Addresses Easter Congregation on Global, Local Tragedies

During the annual Easter Monday Mass at the Our Lady Church in Bkerke, Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi delivered a sermon reflecting on the prevailing tragedies both globally and locally.

He spoke of the devastating conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine, lamenting the lack of a coherent vision for peace amidst escalating human suffering, widespread destruction, and immeasurable losses. He criticized the involvement of various nations, which only exacerbates the situation without offering a pathway to resolution.

Al-Rahi also turned his attention to Lebanon, highlighting the country's own plight resulting from a combination of external interference and internal challenges. He emphasized Lebanon's loss of its once-active and positive neutrality, which has left it vulnerable to the whims of external forces. Particularly poignant was his mention of Southern Lebanon as an innocent victim caught in the crossfire of broader geopolitical struggles.

Al-Rahi's sermon underscored the urgent need for peace, both on the global stage and within Lebanon, as he called upon the faithful to pray for an end to the suffering and a restoration of stability and harmony.
