Head of the Kataeb Party's Foreign Affairs Department, Marwan Abdallah, accused Hezbollah of refusing to accept its defeat following the war it dragged Lebanon into, saying that the group must reintegrate into the state and cede control to the country’s legitimate authorities.
“Hezbollah is now focused on rallying its support base, which has started to grasp the devastation the group has brought upon Lebanon,” Abdallah said in an interview with Al-Hadath. “At the same time, it is pressuring the Lebanese state in an attempt to rebuild its militia using illicit Iranian funding.”
Abdallah stressed that the only viable path forward for Hezbollah is to recognize the authority of the Lebanese state, dismissing the group's latest maneuvers to reassert itself as futile. He warned that the recent actions are only widening the rift between Hezbollah and the Lebanese people, and even among its own support base.
“The recent attack on the UNIFIL convoy is not the first, but it is the most dangerous as it was directly orchestrated by Hezbollah’s leadership,” Abdallah said. "The key question now is: What is Hezbollah’s objective? If its goal is internal control, then it has already failed. If it is external, then that is beyond its power.”
“Hezbollah’s priorities have nothing to do with Lebanon,” he pointed out. “Its supporters must come to terms with the fact that their only refuge is the state, the legitimate security forces, and the Lebanese government.”
Abdallah emphasized that the Lebanese state is pressing ahead with security measures, backed by all political forces, to assert its authority across the country.
With Lebanon having a new government, Abdallah emphasized that the next phase will focus on national recovery.
“The incoming government will soon gain confidence and begin reconstruction efforts, working to restore what was destroyed and rebuild trust after the war Hezbollah had dragged Lebanon into,” he said.
