How Hezbollah Ends
For Hezbollah, these are trying times. After decades of being Lebanon’s predominant political and military organization, the group is reeling. During a yearlong war with Israel, it lost much of its military infrastructure. Its leadership ranks were decimated. Battered by conflict, in November, it signed a cease-fire agreement with Israel and pulled its forces from Lebanon’s south—Hezbollah’s traditional domain. Not long after, Bashar al-Assad’s regime fell in Syria, severing supply lines between the organization and Iran, its primary patron. Now Hezbollah is also at risk of losing the support of Lebanese Shiites, who make up its domestic base.

Mikati Addresses Israeli Violations and Stresses UNIFIL's Role in Lebanon's Stability
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed UNIFIL Commander Major General Aroldo Lázaro Sáenz at the Grand Serail. The discussions focused on the implementation of Resolution 1701, Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty, and Lebanon's objections to UNIFIL regarding these violations.
The meeting also addressed preparations for the upcoming Security Council report, expected to cover breaches impacting Resolution 1701.
Mikati condemned Israeli aggressions against Lebanon and reiterated Lebanon's steadfast commitment to Resolution 1701. He called for raising the issue at the United Nations to reject Israeli violations, emphasizing the need to neutralize UNIFIL from military operations for it to fulfill its role effectively.
"It is required from all parties to neutralize UNIFIL from military operations to enable it to perform its full role,” Mikati added.
