Gemayel Rejects Hezbollah's Unilateral War Decisions in Meeting with Arab League Official

Lebanese Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel on Wednesday met with the Arab League’s assistant secretary general, Hossam Zaki, with whom he discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and the region.

Talks focused on the ongoing presidential void issue as well as the escalating tensions along Lebanon’s southern border.

Gemayel reiterated to Zaki the Kataeb's utter rejection of Hezbollah's monopoly over decisions pertaining to war and peace in Lebanon, cautioning against dragging the country into a war that would only bring ordeals.

The Kataeb party head also pointed out that Hezbollah’s military engagement has proven ineffective and futile in serving Gaza or achieving a viable two-state solution that grants Palestinians their right to a homeland—a crucial step towards halting the conflict and restoring calm to the region.

Regarding the lingering presidential election bottleneck, Gemayel reiterated the Kataeb's steadfast stance as to rejecting any deviation from the Constitution and emphasizing unwavering adherence to the democratic process. He also stressed the necessity of electing a president who garners consensus among Lebanese, is capable of engaging in a dialogue with local and international parties, and guide the country to safe shores.

The meeting, held at Gemayel’s office in Bikfaya, was attended by the Kataeb Party leader’s advisors, former minister Elie Marouni, Sassin Sassin, and Abdullah Nassar.
