The European judicial delegations concluded investigations in Beirut, which involved investigating with Central Bank Governor, Riad Salameh, his close associates, and senior officials at the central bank, as well as owners of commercial banks.
The delegations have started returning to their countries with the summary of the interrogations they conducted over a two-week period.
Lebanon's Finance Minister, Youssef Khalil, voluntarily appeared before the European judges and was the last to testify yesterday. The hearing session lasted three and a half hours during which he was asked more than 100 questions, all of which Khalil answered.
Sources close to the European delegations indicated that Khalil "was asked more than once about his relationship with Riad Salame, and he replied that it was a work relationship."
Khalil is expected to hand over documents, including legal texts related to the management of financial operations in the Central Bank, to the investigating judge in Beirut, Charbel Abou Samra, to be given to the European judges.
