Hezbollah has significantly expanded its domestic weapons manufacturing capabilities within Lebanon despite intensified U.S. and Israeli efforts to disrupt its arms network, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
The militant group has reportedly developed the capacity to produce drones and medium-range missiles locally, reducing its reliance on external arms shipments. This advancement comes as Iran adapts its tactics to continue supplying weapons to its regional allies, notably Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen,
According to The Wall Street Journal, Iran has shifted from transporting weapons in large convoys easily detected by surveillance to using smaller civilian vehicles to move arms covertly across Syria and into Lebanon.
The report also noted that Hezbollah has managed to smuggle in a number of advanced weapons, including Russian-made Kornet guided anti-tank missiles, further strengthening its arsenal.
Michael Knights, a senior fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said Iran is actively “rebuilding its presence in the Levant by sending missiles to Hezbollah and weapons from Iraq to Syria.”
While Iran’s supply line through Syria remains a critical corridor, Michael Cardash, former deputy head of Israel’s National Police Bomb Disposal Division, said Damascus' increasingly hostile stance has complicated Iran’s logistics.
“Traffickers are now forced to move weapons in smaller shipments rather than full truckloads,” he told the paper.
The Journal also reported that Iran is working urgently to replenish weapons stockpiles held by the Houthi rebels in Yemen, following a series of American and Israeli strikes that reportedly destroyed key weapons depots and military infrastructure.
