U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged Lebanon on Monday to take proactive steps to disrupt Iranian and Hezbollah financial networks, during a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Finance Minister Yassine Jaber.

Bessent also stressed the importance of advancing key financial-sector reforms to restore confidence in Lebanon’s banking system, the U.S. Treasury said in a readout of the meeting.

The United States has been targeting Hezbollah-linked financial networks and individuals through sanctions, including measures aimed at disrupting fundraising and revenue-generating networks associated with the group.
