The US Treasury Department announced on Friday that Washington has imposed additional sanctions targeting the financial network of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), including a member of the group's military wing and two fundraising entities based in France.
The department stated in a press release, “These designations reveal an advanced financing structure that has extended over several years, successfully transferring over two million dollars to Hamas through charities operating as a misleading front for other entities and channels relying on cryptocurrencies, demonstrating the organization's ongoing ability to adapt its fundraising mechanisms to evade detection measures.”
The Treasury Department announced that the Hamas member is Saleem Abdullah Saleem Al-Zaq, who is the deputy commander of a battalion in Hamas's military wing based in Gaza. It added that he oversees a financial network that has used several currency service companies and cryptocurrency wallets to transfer large sums of money to the Al-Qassam Brigades affiliated with Hamas.
