U.S., Israel Warn Lebanon: Dismantle Hezbollah Sites in Bekaa or Face Escalation

Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley remains at the center of renewed diplomatic talks between Washington, Tel Aviv, and Beirut, with the U.S. and Israel insisting on the dismantling of Hezbollah's military infrastructure in the region as a condition for averting military escalation, sources familiar with the negotiations told Nidaa Al-Watan.

While U.S. and Israeli demands to disarm Hezbollah cover all of Lebanon’s territory, the focus of diplomatic exchanges, messages, and ongoing rounds of talks is firmly concentrated on the Bekaa, according to sources close to the situation. The region, which has long been a stronghold of Hezbollah, is home to several of the group’s most significant military assets.

The sources revealed that multiple diplomatic messages have been relayed to Lebanon, which in turn are to be conveyed to Hezbollah. The crux of these messages is clear: dismantling Hezbollah’s military infrastructure in the Bekaa is the key to avoiding a potential military strike against the group. According to the sources, these messages also emphasize that dismantling Hezbollah’s weapons manufacturing facilities, including those for drones and precision missiles, is non-negotiable.

Western intelligence reports have long suggested that most of Hezbollah’s drones are assembled in the Bekaa, with the region also housing around 300 precision-guided missiles. These missiles, hidden in the eastern mountain range, are regarded as a primary threat to Israeli security. Despite efforts to dismantle Hezbollah’s military capabilities, these missile sites remain intact and represent one of the few remaining risks to Israel’s security.

The sources noted that Hezbollah, for its part, continues to insist on the terms set by previous agreements, particularly the November 27, 2024 agreement and UN Resolution 1701, which specifically stipulate that weapons should be confined to areas south of the Litani River. Hezbollah’s position is clear: it is unwilling to make further concessions or surrender its weapons, especially in areas north of the Litani, or anywhere else.
