U.S. Delegation ‘Not Satisfied’ With Lebanon’s Efforts to Counter Hezbollah, Sources Say

A visiting U.S. Treasury delegation met with several Lebanese lawmakers in Beirut last week and reportedly stressed the need to disarm Hezbollah, placing the issue ahead of financial and economic reforms, according to information obtained by Al-Hadath.

Sources told the outlet that the American delegation conveyed strong concerns over what it described as Lebanon’s inadequate response to Hezbollah’s expanding financial network, particularly its handling of the Al-Qard al-Hassan Association, a financial entity affiliated with the group and sanctioned by Washington.

The delegation was “not satisfied with Lebanon’s approach” toward the association, the sources said, adding that U.S. officials viewed the country’s current measures as insufficient to curb Hezbollah’s influence within the financial system.

According to the same sources, the delegation also warned that the United States would scale back its support if Lebanon fails to take concrete action on both Hezbollah’s disarmament and key financial reforms, saying the country could otherwise be “left to its fate.”
