Joan Laporta is willing to do whatever it takes to balance Barcelona's books and he has proposed to certain players different salary adjustments so that the club can adhere to LaLiga's salary cap.
Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto are the four players whose salaries are regarded as high, considering the club's situation following the COVID-19 outbreak.
Hence, Barcelona have proposed different salary adjustments to all four, depending on the years they have left in their contracts and potential renewals.
In talks between the club and players' agents, there are those who are not willing to pay for Barcelona's poor management in the past, despite being aware of the tough situation the Blaugrana are going through.
The pandemic has wreaked havoc with the club's finances and Laporta's board are obliged to cash in on players such as Samuel Umtiti, Miralem Pjanic and Antoine Griezmann in order to meet LaLiga's salary cap requirements.
Barcelona believe that their players will agree on the salary adjustments, which will allow the club to register their four new signings, three of whom joined on free transfers.
The Catalan club need to adhere to LaLiga's financial fair play rules and by doing so they will be able to extend the contract of Lionel Messi, whose deal expired on July 1.
Barcelona's board of directors currently hope that they can reach agreements over wages' readjustments before August 15, otherwise they have not ruled out taking more drastic measures.
