Kylian Mbappe gave his take on the appliance of science in football and stressed that he has noticed its progress since he began playing football professionally.
In a videoconference chat with astronaut Thomas Pesquet, who is currently on the International Space Station (ISS), Mbappe was asked how the advanced statistics have influenced football over the last few years.
"It's ever present," Mbappe replied in the conversation organised by UEFA.
"I don't think anything is left to chance in football today. And I've been in professional football for four, five years now, and I've already seen that progression, so I can't imagine what it's like for those that are older than me and have been around longer.
"But I also have a question: what do you do in space? Have you made any discoveries?"
Pesquet gave a detailed response, breaking down the different aspects on which the scientists are focused during the research.
"We do a fair amount of medical research, on physiology and stem cells," replied Pesquet.
"There's a phenomenon by which if you spend six months in space, it's as if your body aged ten years: you lose muscle because you're not using them, you lose bone mass, because you don't need to support the weight of your body.
"You atrophy a bit. The scientists love it, because you see what's going on with the cells, DNA, etc., and they think they may even be able to understand the key to ageing.
"So, that's just one subject; there are plenty of others. We make alloys, we do lots of things. Every day, I'm doing four or five different experiments."
According to Le Parisien, Mbappe will make his decision on his future once he sees Paris Saint-Germain's project, as he wants the French club to fight for every trophy available, including the Champions League.
Mbappe has already stressed on several occasions that the main factor that will determine his decision is whether he thinks he can achieve major success at the club.
