Southern Lebanon Faces Ongoing Israeli Military Activity as 60-Day Deadline Approaches

An Israeli drone targeted an agricultural plain between Majidiyeh and Wadi Khensa in southern Lebanon, just days before the 60-day deadline set by a ceasefire agreement, local reports said.

In addition, an Israeli military unit reportedly infiltrated the Lebanese town of Taybeh on Wednesday, advancing towards the area of Deir Siryan. This marks the latest in a series of incursions into southern Lebanon, where Israel has maintained a significant security presence.

According to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA), the Israeli military carried out a series of explosive operations on Wednesday, demolishing several homes in Aita al-Chaab and on the outskirts of Hanin in the Bint Jbeil district.

The Israeli army has also executed three explosions in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon. The first blast occurred near the outskirts of Houla towards Wadi al-Sulouki, followed by a second explosion in the town of Markaba, and a third in the town of Taybeh.

Later during the day, the Israeli army said troops operating on the Lebanese side of Mount Dov in recent days seized a cache of weapons belonging to Hezbollah.

According to the Israeli military, the 810th "Mountains" Regional Brigade carried out the operation, which aimed to locate and dismantle Hezbollah’s weaponry and infrastructure in the area. During the raid, troops reportedly confiscated an array of weapons, including anti-tank missiles and launchers, rocket launchers, machine guns, targeting sights, and other military equipment.

All of the weapons that were located were confiscated, the Israeli army noted.

Meanwhile, a unit of the Lebanese Army, supported by a team from the Civil Defense, is preparing to enter the town of Hanin, located at the southernmost tip of the country.

In a more positive development, the Lebanese army has allowed residents of Bayada, Shamaa, Alma al-Shaab, and Naqoura to visit their homes, NNA reported.

The recent military actions come just a few days before the expiration of the 60-day deadline outlined in the ceasefire deal reached on November 27, which ended two months of intense conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. Under the terms of the deal, the Lebanese army is expected to deploy alongside UNIFIL peacekeepers in southern Lebanon as the Israeli army gradually withdraws.
