Lebanese political sources have raised alarm over reports suggesting that three Arab and Western capitals have discussed a possible deal to avert an Israeli strike by offering concessions to Hezbollah in exchange for the group’s weapons.
“These discussions are completely unacceptable and will not happen,” the sources told Nidaa Al-Watan. “Hezbollah remains determined to keep its arms, and all Lebanese political forces reject handing over these weapons in exchange for additional powers for the party.”
The sources stressed that any potential surrender of Hezbollah’s weapons should instead be linked to sanctions against the group and Iran, citing what they described as 35 years of harm and damage inflicted on Lebanon.
They also noted that the United States is not moving in a direction that would support such an arrangement, signaling a lack of international backing for proposals tying arms control to concessions for Hezbollah.
